Preventive Dentistry

Preventive dentistry involves the early diagnosis of dental issues that will cause problems in the future.  Early diagnosis usually results in more conservative treatments.  This will save you time and money in the years ahead.

Preventive dentistry also involves us taking the time to carefully plan treatments, using the most up to date knowledge, materials and methods. This enables us to offer a range of treatment options. Time is taken to carefully explain the approximate life expectancy of, and possible future issues arising from, each particular treatment option.  From this information, you are more able to make an informed decision as to the treatment that is best suited for your particular circumstance.

Total preventive care also involves educating you about the simple and effective preventive dental treatments. From this, areas that have been identified as problematic can potentially be stabilised and monitored.  These preventive treatments are individually tailored for you, and can be re-assessed as your circumstances change over time.  Again, the reduced incidence of problems in the future saves time, money and inconvenience for you.

This can be achieved by all our patients following our protocol:

1. Six-monthly check-ups;
2. Regular visits to the dentist, including fluoride application, oral hygiene instruction and dietary advice to help you maintain a healthy mouth;
3. Regular x-rays, taken every 2-3 years as necessary to check in between teeth and around existing restorations, where it can be difficult to diagnose visually;
4. X-rays, taken to check for any abnormalities or pathology associated with the teeth or supporting tissues to help maintain your oral health; and
5. The thorough explanation of dental treatment and options, with an approximate longevity and cost estimation, so that you can make an informed decision that best suits your circumstances.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic Dentistry or Aesthetic Dentistry is the broad heading describing dental procedures that improve the appearance of the teeth.  In today’s age of improved technology and dental materials, there are a wide and varied range of options available to make your teeth look and feel fantastic.

Stained, chipped, uneven, crooked, broken or missing teeth can be repaired or replaced.  It need not be an “Extreme Makeover”.  Sometimes just trimming the edges of the worn front teeth can make a dramatic cosmetic impact without any great expense. Something as simple as replacing metal fillings with new ones made from a material the same colour as a tooth can make a significant improvement to your smile.

However, in all cosmetic dental treatment plans, it is very important for the dentist to keep functionality, and not just appearance, in mind.

Cosmetic Procedures may include:

  • Composite Resin Veneers
  • Porcelain Veneers
  • Dental Crowns & Bridges
  • Root Canal Treatment
  • Wisdom Tooth Removal
  • Tooth Whitening
